dc.description | The presence of trace elements in food is an important task for different areas of science. Currently, in the State of Chihuahua the species Carya illinoinensis, have great economic importance, for the fruit and as a timber resource. The objectives of this work were to evaluate the translation of elements in a walnut production system, incorporating the water-soil-tree interaction through: i) determination of the distribution of essential nutrients and elements through distribution coefficients (soil-water) ) and transfer factors, ii) comparison with possible chemicals, iii) estimation of the health risk due to pecan nut intake, by calculating the risk quotient of each element analyzed in the interaction Water and soil of the walnut tree of the species Carya illinoinensis. The investigation was carried out in 5 orchards of the city of Aldama in the State of Chihuahua, Mexico. The sampling was made in October 2015, before the harvesting season. In each orchard were sampled irrigation water, soil, leaves and walnut to carry out the chemical and statistical analysis. The concentrations of trace elements, Cr and Pb, in irrigation water were out of the limits defined in the Mexican legislation. In the other hand, in the pecan nut Cr values are found up to 10 times higher than the reference value established by FAO / WHO. Also, the values obtained in pecans have shown a value that represents a potential risk to human health. In samples of walnut leaves the As, Cr and Pb values were higher than other studies reported in the literature of toxic elements in plants. This indicates a possible tendency to accumulate trace elements in the walnut. The values obtained from the transfer factor of the water-soil-tree interactions, when compared with the chemical properties, ionic radio and oxidation state, the possible competition between chemical congeners. Thus, the plant absorbs Pb+2 instead of Ca+2, Cr+3 instead of P+3 and Cr+3 instead of Fe+3. On the other hand, Cluster analysis indicated a grouping of the orchards El Edén and Viña Grande, as well as Los Laureles and Santa Lucía. This is due the chemical similarity of the soil and the irrigation water of the orchards analyzed. Finally, a positive correlation linearly was recorded in the absorption of As in leaves, with the age of the walnut tree. With this results, it was suggested to the Mexican authority, a legislation to establish permissible limits of trace elements in fruits and vegetables, and apply it to strategies to minimize health risks. | en_US |
| en_US |
